Counselling for one sided love

Short answer

Counselling for one sided love gives you a private place to grieve what you hoped for, loosen the hope that keeps the feeling alive, and put your energy back into your own life. At ClaraShift you talk with a counsellor online by video or audio, and you see the price before you pay. Moving on usually starts with accepting their answer and creating some distance.

How ClaraShift helps with one sided love

You meet one counsellor, privately, by video or audio. Every person is different, but sessions for this usually focus on:

Say it fully

Many people have never told anyone how strong the feeling is. Saying it to someone neutral takes away some of its weight.

Understand the pull

You look at what this person stands for, like being chosen or feeling special, so the feeling makes more sense.

Set kind limits

You plan how much contact, checking, and hoping you will allow, and what to do when the urge comes.

Notice the pattern

If you often fall for people who are not available, sessions help you see why and choose differently.

How to move on from one sided love: what you can try today

  1. Take their answer as the answer

If they said no, went quiet, or only reach out when they need something, that is information. Stop rereading it for a hidden yes.

  2. Create real distance

Mute, unfollow, and stop starting conversations for a while. Every small reply refuels the hope.

  3. Grieve the story, not only the person

Much of the pain is for the future you imagined together. Let yourself be sad about that story ending.

  4. Notice the fantasy

Write down what you actually know about them versus what you hope. The gap is often where the longing lives.

  5. Spend the attention on your life

Put the hours you spent thinking about them into friends, sleep, study, work, or a skill. Attention is what feeds the feeling.

  6. Be kind about the rejection

Not being chosen by one person is not proof that you are unlovable. It means this was not a match.

Why is one sided love so hard to get over?

Research on unrequited love finds that both sides struggle: the person who loves without return often reports heartbreak and a hit to self esteem, while the person saying no often feels guilty and unsure how to act. Hope is the hardest part. A small kind message can feel like proof, and the cycle starts again.

Rejection also activates some of the same brain systems as physical pain. Feeling it deeply is human, not a flaw.

Is it one sided love or are they just slow to show it?

It is probably one sided if most of these are true:

  • You almost always start the conversation
  • They are warm in private but distant in public, or the other way round
  • Plans are vague and rarely happen
  • They have told you they do not feel the same, but you hope it will change
  • You feel anxious more often than happy around them

Can I stay friends with someone who does not love me back?

Sometimes, but usually not straight away. Staying close while hoping for more keeps the wound open. A break gives the feeling time to settle. Later, a friendship can work if you no longer wait for it to become something else.

How long does it take to move on?

It varies with how long you hoped and how much contact continues. Distance usually speeds things up. If after a few months you still organise your days around them, a counsellor can help you find what keeps the hope going.

When is it time to talk to someone?

  • The feeling is taking over study, work, or sleep
  • You keep returning after deciding to let go
  • It is part of a pattern of choosing people who are not available
  • You feel worthless, hopeless, or have thoughts of not wanting to be here

If you are in India

One sided love often stays secret in India, especially in college or at work, which can make it feel heavier. Family may also be talking about marriage at the same time. An online session is a private place to say what you have not told anyone.

Audio sessions start at ₹2,499. Video starts at ₹2,999. Exact prices are on the India pricing page before you pay. The government Tele-MANAS helpline is 14416 (Ministry of Health). ClaraShift is not that helpline.

Common questions

Can counselling help with one sided love?

Yes. A counsellor helps you understand why this person has such a hold, ease the self blame, and plan distance you can stick to. ClaraShift sessions are private and online by video or audio.

Should I tell them how I feel?

If you have never said it, a clear and calm message can end the uncertainty. If you already have and they said no, telling them again usually restarts the pain.

Why do I keep falling for people who are unavailable?

Sometimes the chase feels familiar, or distance feels safer than real closeness. This is a common theme in sessions and worth exploring with a counsellor.

What if I feel unsafe or cannot cope?

Contact local emergency services or a crisis line now. ClaraShift is not an emergency service.
